Community Leadership

Civic responsibility is a longstanding tradition of LDI and the Lacy family.  We believe strongly in active involvement, contribution and leadership in our communities. 

From leadership development to education and the arts, company officers, employees and family members have quietly led and promoted some of the City’s most revered institutions including:

• Indianapolis Public Schools and Charter Schools
• The Children’s Museum
• United Way of Central Indiana
• The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University
• The Indiana Repertory Theatre
• The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

The Lacy Foundation is an Indianapolis private charitable foundation established in 1973 by members of the Lacy family as a memorial to Stanley K. Lacy, beloved son of Edna Balz Lacy and brother to Margot Lacy Eccles and Andre B. Lacy.  In addition to honoring the life of Stanley, the foundation is the family’s outward commitment to making central Indiana a caring and thriving community.  For generations, the family’s legacy has been defined by giving back to the community with a focus on education, leadership and quality of life issues. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited requests.  The Foundation primarily works with known organizations, programs and community leaders to identify, develop and fund projects.  The Foundation, as a rule, does not fund: Individuals Religious Institutions Individual Schools Research and support organizations for various diseases and ailments.

The Foundation contributes annually to the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Foundation, sponsoring the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Program (SKL), one of the nation’s most successful leadership training programs.  For over three decades, under the strong direction of Edna B. Lacy and Margot Lacy Eccles, SKL has provided over 800 emerging leaders with the knowledge and skills to better serve the needs of their communities.  The SKL program informs and motivates young professionals and raises their awareness of community issues and sense of community trusteeship through seminars, tours, reading and interaction with experts, leaders and decision makers.  Most importantly, SKL develops, engages and mobilizes current and future leaders to encourage philanthropic involvement that helps our community to continue to thrive.  For additional information, please see Lacy Leadership Association (www.lacyleadership.org).
